The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to re-examine the central contracts of the Green Shirts after their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 which led to their elimination.
The Men in Green did not play well in the tournament, with two losses and only one victory.
Pakistan were defeated by debutants USA by five runs in a Super Over tie and against India by six runs. They managed to win against Canada on Tuesday by seven wickets.
With the match between the US and Ireland abandoned due to rain on Friday, the co-hosts secured one point, consequently ending Pakistan's hopes of proceeding in the tournament.
The national team's last league game against Ireland will only be a formality after which the squad will return home.
This is the third time in the tournament’s history that Pakistan has been eliminated in the league round.
It should be noted that the players signed a three year contract on July 1 last year under Zaka Ashraf's chairmanship, provisioning increased remunerations.
Despite that, they failed to perform in Asia Cup 2023, ODI World Cup 2023 and the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. They also failed in the tour of Australia and New Zealand.
According to the sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, along with senior officials, discussed the changes to be made in the central contract last night.
The board will now decide on the prospects of keeping the current remuneration packages of the players.
